I'm particularly happy with Digital cameras that have a screen that swivels. Makes it easy to shoot low or high... or around corners or however. I've been using the Nikon 5000... before that the Nikon 950.
Also recently got a Minolta DiMAGE. A super little beast with a 2.1 meg plate that easily fits into a shirt pocket. Great for get a reference shot when they just happen by and your main camera is at home sitting uselessly on your desk. |

I can recommend the Canon range of Digital cameras. I have had a Powershot S20, 3.3 MPixels, for about two years and I've been perfectly happy with it. My boss at work has a Canon Powershot G2, which is more expensive but has a rotateable screen as well as a few more features. Both are very equal in terms of image quality. Two of my friends have bought the newer and more compact S30 cameras, which they are very enthusiastic about. I haven't tried a lot of other brands of digital cameras, so I can't help you with other recommendations...

i've been using my Fuji S602 for the past month or so and its fantastic...i really am enjoying and have learned quite a bit about photography. if you want to see some pictures i took with it, they are over at http://zippzopp.deviantart.com/gallery the only thing its missing, in my opinion is bulb exposures, other than that its great! and now i'm looking forward to a massive upgrade in maybe a year or so..i wanna get a Nikon D100!!! |

Like Eyewoo up there, I have a very small digital camera (an Canon Ixus2/powershot S110) in my pocket at all time. On my way to the store, if the sky is splendid or a treebranch has an intriguing texture, I snap it. _Very_ useful!
If you're after a digi-cam to take print quality images, it will be significantly bigger, and you won't be carrying it around with you. You'll probably use it when you've planned to use it, or in your home.
I can't help you pick, but think about your usage. If you're sure you need more than 1600x1200 jpegs, okeydoke. But bigger is not always better! |

Careful with the cannon powershot series. Any ultra compact beyond the s110 starts having a loss in quality as they try to pack more features into smaller designs. So, if you're looking for a good ultra compact and don't mind the lower resolution, go for the s110, it has the best color and image quality of the lot. |

I can really recommend the canon powershot G2. I have mine since november 2001 and this baby rocks!!! it may be a little expensive but the picture quality is simply amazing.

i got the Sony 707 and the older 505.
They were both the best you could get at their release time on their price class.
I haven't checked what's new but i'm sure the 707 still kicks butt. |
