okay, i come here with a bit of a problem...
where is art allowed to start and where should it end?
my specific case is the following:
in germany, there was a big fuzz about a pair of satanists who murdered a guy. the last days, they were sentenced to 15 and 13 years of psychiatry.
now, i decided to paint a portrait showing one of these two. as i postet the portrait in another forum, most people started flaming and shouting how i dare paint such monsters etc, etc, etc...
i have to say: i do not find any of the things these two mad ppl did good in any meaning. i don't like satanism as i don't like any religion, i am just a gothic.

well, now my question: can't a murderer have an interesting face?
why only painting stars and starlets? - there also is a counterpart in reality.

jin brown over at idd gave the point to be gentle with people who look at the pictures. not to shock or depress them but encourage them and make them happy.

i see the point but is there a difference between a murderer and a non-murderer as long as they both make a good portrait?

thanks in advance for your worthy opinion

There's nothing wrong with painting someone tastefully, like a portrait or something. Like that guy who painted bin Laden a while back... It was a very good painting, but everyone jumped down his throat for it. I say paint what you want. Painting something doesn't necessarily mean you support the actions portrayed in it. Don't let oversensitive people discourage you.

It all depends on point of view. Someone might jump down your throat for painting that portrait.. but then use a little guy with horns and a pitchfork as his logo on his website. And for some reason painting a devil, or demon and basically glorifying the supposed entity behind this evil is cool, painting the current manifestation of evil is bad.I'm not saying either one is ok or bad.. im just stating how people _can_ look at things.

But look at it this way. If your mother or father had been murdered by that guy, it might offend you if you saw someone painting him. Because in a way, it is glorifying that person. If he hadnt been a satanist and murdered someone, you probably wouldn't have known about him at all.. let alone paint him.

But. Art is an expression of your thoughts. If you want to paint that go ahead. But go into it knowing you are going to stir some emotions... and you have to handle the feedback about it.
