I bought Plustek 1200dpi scanned 1+ year ago for $90
It's alright, but loud! Speed is pretty good and resolution is good for scanners of its class. Wish you oculd afford a SCSI scanner, they go like WEEEeeeeeeeee... (fast) |

My Visioneer 8100 is an alright scanner. It's super-quiet, and the image quality is actually pretty good.
The optical resolution is only 1200 dpi, though that's about as high as you would ever want to scan, anyways.
It cost me about.. 70-90 bucks, and I haven't had any problems with it so far. Plus, it comes with a free copy of Paperport, which is something of a handy portfolio-style program.
I imagine you could get just about any scanner you want in the 50-150 range, so if you don't opt for a Visioneer, go for an Epson or a Canon. |

Scanners are annoying. I've been trying to get a scanner for a couple weeks now, and as luck would have it I got TWO used ones in the same day. NEITHER WORK (win98 era). It would be asking too much for working win2k drivers I suppose. Instead they give you a 50 step routine you have to go through to get the old drivers working and WITHOUT fail, step 43 doesn't work so the whole operation folds like a house of wet cards. I'm gonna pile them up in the bath tub and take a shit on them.
Anyhow, thanks for the suggestions. I'm gonna take a spin on pricewatch and see what I can find. |

Eheheh no no dude, first you wanna find out what you want. You do this by reading reviews. I'm sure having scanner a not very popular piece of hardware, it still has some sites dedicated to them.
Try on www.google.com search for scanner reviews and be more specific. |

Canon makes decent scanners, that are priced well, the software included is pretty good. check out this one....Canon D660U. Oh, you should also check out
CNET, they always have really good reviews of electronics.
