having a history in traditional mediums, the wacom tablet is relativly new to me. when i first tried it, i couldnt get the control i had with a penicl and paper. so i put a peice of paper over my wacom tablet to get the texture of the paper i would draw on , it helps alot with my pen control. anyone else try this or do this all the time? the wacom tablet is too slippery, hehe.

Yeah, I tried that, and it's cool. However it made a squeeky noise then, so I took off the paper. I have found that coated printing paper often have different backsides to them, you know the side which been processed as the printing size. I found it interesting to experiment with different feels that way. Trying one side, then the other side again, and so forth.
It's really fun, haven't done it for quite some time though....

But it shure is recommendable!

yup, heard about this, and i may have to try it soon, but for different reasons entirely... the surface of my tablet is getting rather scratched... turns out the pen tip had, through wear, developed a wickedly sharp point, and was scratching up the surface... thank god for the spare tips provided...

Mine is schratched too, it sucks.
But I have noticed that the schraches dissapear very slowly. This is not wear I think, it seems like is plastic is just as kluid as to slowly fill in the holes....??!
Dunno....
But how will it help to put a new tip on the pen, if the pad is already skratched??!!

To protect the surface of my Wacom against scratching, I just use an adhesive sheet of Frisk airbrush film. It works pretty well, and also has a slightly rougher texture which for me is easier to work with.

well, the new tip prevents further scratching, and since it's now rounder, it also makes the scratches not seem as evident (glides over them more smoothly)...

I thought most Wacoms had one of those covers on top of the actual surface. Because mine has one, and the surface itself isn't scratched. Also, how can you press so hard that it sharpens your tip? I mean, WOW!

You can scotch-tape some paper over if you like =) but that might wear out your pen nibs faster.

I used various drawing papers on my first pad, each with a different surface 'tooth'; depending on what I was drawing. I don't know that it really affected the drawing itself, just my perception of the 'drag' on the stylus. I did like the feel tho'. Sure did wear down the nibs fast...
On my new pad I almost taped some paper on it, but never got 'round to it. I really like the smooth feel now. And, I'm still on my first stylus nib after a year!
