Im new to the whole mac scene (avid pc user) and i just had some extra cash from my xmas bonus. When it comes to art, is getting a mac labtop to work on a good idea? If i get a nice one, will it be just as useful as the desktop versions. I dont really have enough room in my house for another desktop in my house, cause i already have a powerful pc with dual monitors.. Thanks for your help.

I wouldn’t bother, I thought I’d do the same thing but with a good Dell but ended up just using it for games. The LCD on laptops are not suited for Photoshop type activities. And for me the keyboard is too flat and not good for my shortcut keys. It’s a good idea and can work but it didn’t work for me.

I f you are really set on getting one. My friend a classmate has a high end mac laptop and she has everything that is on our G4's at school on that thing and it runs better than our G4's do. I don't know it's stats, but it's really nice. I myself wouldn't waste my money on one.

take it from me...Laptops are not worth it. I'm on my final stretch on financing my laptop (dell...fully loaded) and after 3 years of paying it almost, it sits in it's case in the corner of my room collecting dust. In the past year all it's done is transfer files from 1 location to another. It doens't handle photshop stuff or 3d stuff well due to the LCD screen.

Also, i have used g3 laptops till the current g4 titanium ones and honestly, they look cool, but that's about it. They are less powerful than their desktop brothers and not worth all of it.

I've learned that i'll never need a laptop, desktops will do and maybe a nice little like palm or something if i need it, but unless you got no other computer, or unless you got no home, or unless you're some rich fancy business guy who has to have everything, i really don't like 90% of the world who uses a laptop really needs it.

just my 2 cents (maybe i should save them and put them on my monthly dell bill...*sigh*)

For an avid pc user, you'd think that you'd know there is no such thing as a "labtop".

r u homeless?
or do u just dont go home?
i dont thin that u would use ur laptop to draw while u are on the road. atleast not the final version of the art.

the use paper, draw ur ideas onto the paper., then go home finish the picture.

there is a little extra thouht tho. u r going bring ur tablet with u when u r not drawing in home?

it take a few hours to draw r u going to stAY in some strange place n draw for a few hours?

if u wan a laptop. go for pc. atleast when u find that laptop isn't realy for drawing when u r away, u can do something else with ur pc, not mac

thank u

I have a Mac at home and I use Macs at work---they are total shit

I can't wait for Mac to go out of business...I am saving for a PC right now and I can't wait till I get it....now if I can only get my work to change platforms???! You can get a PC that is a million times better and faster than a Mac for less than half the money. They is way better and more software availablee for PC. Unless you use your computer for a lot of word processing laptops are pointless in my opinion (or I guess they're OK for picking up chicks like Dr. Bang suggested)
