I envy his sense of color, really.
I once did a painting with his color scheme. It was inspired by that prehistoric hunter-gatherer illustrations from National Geographic. Since I had no idea about his color theory, I experemented with mixing various colors. Seemingly, pthalo blue does most of the magic.
At this point my level of color theory and mixing is god-awful. I tend to create the color scheme of a painting straight out of my head, and it really doesn't work. -_-;
Back to Mr. Manchess, his painting style is kinda loose. To some people it would be no more than color studies, comparing with the works of Glen Orbik or Boris Vallejo. it's definitely impressionist style. At one point I really wanted to copy his style, especially color schemes....
But his style doesn't work on my kind of subject matters. Loose brush strokes don't work with..... painting Gundam kicking Zaku's ass.
Imagine that Boogey guy(sorry) painted Gundam or some other 'non-classical' subjects! I wonder if classical painters paint scenes like frat parties or Compton drive-by or South Central gangbang scenes. -_-; Whouldn't it be funny if some classical painter paints Grey alien anal-probing some poor Southern redneck abductee with 19th century preraphaelite-style?
If I could paint like classical masters, I would paint these subjects:
1. A pimp and his hos
2. Crips
3. Trailer park and it's dwellers
4. Frat House party scene
5. Godzilla stomping Tokyo
6. Portraits of Rob Zombie and such
7. Shotgun-toting rednecks
