OK guys, I have been unable to find the name of the new Loomis publishers, and now it's said that it's not as close as we'd like. Further I haven't gotten any response from the old address I had for Viking Press. I have therefore concluded to reinstate the Loomis Project, with one simple modification that I'll need help with. I want to present the pages in a format that is more along the lines of a reference library. In other words, I want to use java or cgi to make the pages viewable, but much more difficult to save to disk(outside of 200 printscreens or going to the browser cache). The reason is that I want to be sensative to the copyright owners, and also present the book to the world. If some people can view it in a library and even check it out, I see no reason why people shouldn't be able to view it(without replicating it) online. I'm sure the legalities are opposed to my notion, but that's not important. Anyway, any cgi wizards out there care to help? Thanks,

This sounds like a very respectfull way to go about this but not very practical. Those of us that don't have a connection to the internet that is up 24/7 like DSL or cable would not have a easy time with the way you would like to set it up. Just another view.

Im no cgi wizard, but I want to say, Ive rewritten some pages of the book in a text prog. to make it prettier to print it, but stopped when you said that it will be reprinted.

If you need the text, just say it. I think the files will become smaller and therefore better for the net.
Maybe its just plain dumb.

I don't know man, that seems a bit counterintuitive having it up on the net, but not having the ability to save the images. I'd worry about the implications of copyright infringement if and when it becomes an issue with the republishing of the book...

Anthony- In a past post you said,

"I re-scanned pages 15-56 tonight in the nice high res format. So any of you who have been wanting to make a zip or pdf of it, go ahead now. I'd like to pass the whole thing off to a large permanent art site, in case my site ever goes down."

I have no problems putting this up on my site. It is a permanent site that should never go down ever. Also there is no downloading limits on my site.

Lord Whorfin, email me at [email protected] . I guess that'd be best-I'm glad I scanned the pages, and was just trying to get the best thing for everybody, including the copyrights guys, but if that won't work well for people, then I'll just pass it along to L.W. and he can do as he likes with it(lemme see your site first though). Thanks all!

Allright guys, http://www.yoyodyne.net/ looks pretty fast. I'll let you guys vote on it, and if you think it's good I'll hand the whole project off to him and he'll host it from here on out.

I just found out the Loomis figure drawing book never was out of print - in the german language, by the publisher "Muster-Schmidt". The last reprint was only as little ago as 200, although it's out again already the next one will follow 2nd quartal 2001 - so in a few months at max. Unfortunately there seems to be no other of his books translated - at least I couldn't find them. Probably this doesn't really help most of you, but those that speak other languages than english could have a try at this.

As for the english reprint, I asked in my bookstore, and it was checked up in the computer, but there was no note on a reprint, which means that it will take *at least* a year for theother books to appear in store, or so she said. I was wondering...don't want to be demanding or anything, but is there a faint possiblitiy of other Loomis books being rescanned, than the currrent ones(figure drawing and Creative Illustration)?

Anyway, Anthony, thank you so much for doing this!

Looks nice and fast.
Lord Worfin - how much space do you have available?
Any chance of putting my Loomis C.I. there as well? idrive is shutting down as of June 18 and I'm looking for another no-cost solution for the files.

(See separate Loomis C.I. thread.)
