Most GOOD images you'll find on the internet are copyrighted. Not much you can do about that. Just keep looking, and make sure that anything you use is NOT copyrighted, otherwise you'll have an entire forum on your back. |

Hey!
First -I don`t want to steal anything from someone, ok? I`m not a thief,ok?
And I haven`t ask where I can steal the work from an artist, I ask where I can download FREE-Textures, if there are some on the net.
I hope u can understand this! This is quiet simple!
I didn`t know that all Textures in the complete Internet have a copyright.
For example there are certain simple Backrounds for Homepages that everyone can use an modify. They are FREE .They aren`t very good, but usefull.

You're much better off, and won't look stupid/lame/cheap/awful dumb/lacking of skill if you draw the textures yourself. It's a dictate among all digital artists. It's just.. wrong.
Draw them yourself. There's tutorials all over the net on how to texture your drawings. It just takes practice. You'll never establish yourself or have your art made in the present or future taken seriously if you use someone else' textures in your picture.
And that doesn't even go into the technicals of skewing and cutting and masking textures just to get it to fit. Plain and simple, you're better off drawing them.
However, if you absolutely must have textures, and won't listen to us, www.3dcafe.com has thousands of textures under Free Stuff.

Oh man they are going to start attacking you man.
pay them no attention it's not stealing to use textures and most of them do at least the ones doing 3d art.
but here is a cool site with tons of textures. http://www.textures3d.com/go.html
also it is very easy to make your own textures in ps.
it's hard to explain but there are some tutors out there to give you an idea www.designsbymark.com www.phong.com
but basically you just use the cloud filture to get the colors you want then noise then motion blur or glass so on

at least i am helpfull to the guy. you guys are just butt heads to him.
so rude.
First i like to say this to all those that say you cannot use textures that someone else made.
Go look at some 3d art see any you like i bet alot of what you see they used someone elses texture.
just keep that in mind when you are looking at 3d art. |

kickass 3d artists make their own textures, period.... or change existing ones around so much that it's the equivalent of making your own....
unless you're doing 3d art, textures aren't going to help you much if you're just painting 2d shiz in photoshop, no way to apply them in a 3d manner unless you only need like a brick texture for a flat wall you have....
but yeah, check out the links above for the shiz anyway |

Thank u very much man, that was a helpfull answer.
And thx for the links guys, i`m interested in learning how to do textures,
but I `m not a 3D -Artist - I `only make COmics with Digital Colouring, and I have to finish my work in a few days and I thought some FREE Textures could have a nice effect on the comic.

Neil: I've never used another artist's textures in any of my 3D work . . . in fact, most of my textures aren't even derived from images at all.
Aimok: If you're going to be doing a lot of 2D texturing, Corel Photo-Paint has a really nice algorithmic texture engine built-in.
You can get older versions of the software pretty cheap . . . I'm actually still using release 8.
If you'd rather use photographic textures, check out my man Engleman's big ass archive of photos of dirty things:

yeah, people listen to britney spears too, but that doesn't make it good music.... i'm just saying (and *gasp* faustgfx agrees) that a piece of art should be fully your own.... like i said, if you use a texture from let's say marlin studios' library, just change it around so much that noone can tell it's from there, it's not that hard to do |

Aimok, buy a digital cam, shoot everything and arrange it with your comic.
Its no crime to use someone else's work if you still use it creatively to build something new!
(btw, someone else programmed the programs i use for drawing. if we really want to live this philosophy of great originality codex we have go out in nature, harvest our own silicon and build our own computers, program the programs, build the tools.)

Bah. I make one comment, forget the thread, and everything goes to hell. I wasn't implying that you WERE trying to steal other peoples' work. I was just trying to say watch out, 'cause people have been on edge lately (as you've probably noticed. )
Anyway, if you found a free texture, and were able to create something interesting with it, more power to you I say. |
