Yo Yo,
How often do you guys replace your wacom pen nibs? Mine seems to be wearing down some. I'm assuming this is normal. Should I wait till it gets really low? Just curious...

I just replaced mine the other night after almost a year...and noticed a huge difference... you'll definitely want to take it out when your drawing begins to drag on the wacom.
process is really easy too, just use a tweezer to pull it out.

No, but Wacom has those for 14 or so dollars and they come with instructions for removing the old and attaching the new one. You have to order it from them I think.

For anyone who has a Wacom with out the plastic mat (some older models and the graphire I believe) I'd recommend changing your nib fairly often. I was an idiot with my first tablet (a 4 x 5 Art Pad) and didn't replace the nib for a long time and it had worn down to an angle. This eventually started to scratch the surface. It won't happen over night but it will happen eventually. If you ever notice your nib is worn down at an angle replace it. The cost of a few pen nibs is nothing compared to replacing your whole tablet. |

Hmm....this post kinda freaked me out! The store (Microcenter) I purchased my tablet at gave me two nibs bundled with the package, but I was to into hurring to try it out that I never even considered the nibs would soon wear down. Thanks brfore hand.
Anyhow I have a question, how long did it take you guys to wear down your nibs? |

My nips are fine. I don't hope that they'll wear down!

If your tablet has the plastic cover over top of it then it will take longer for the nib to wear down. If your tablet doesn't have plastic cover the I imagine it will wear a little bit faster but not by too much. You just need to be on the look out for your pen nib getting worn down at an angle like a normal pencil does (because you're always drawing with one side). Or if you start to hear any scratching sounds (big warning). I don't mean to get anyone paranoid, if your tablet is fairly new and the surface isn't scratched then your pen will last for quite a while (easily over a year).
Once your surface starts to get scratched it will wear down your pens even faster though. Near the end when my first tablet was really badly scratched (this is after a good 2-3 years of neglect) I could wear a nib to an angle in a couple of months!

i called wacom a few days ago and they said that they would send off a complimentary set of 5 nibs....otherwise they cost $10.
putting sketch paper on the tablet is a great idea. i want to try that out...and yes my nib rotates.
