does anybody know the name of that program that takes like 100 jpegs and makes small pics of them and sorts them so they all form one big picture made out of the tiny ones?

-"I can't wear a turtle neck. It's like being strangled by a really weak guy. Like, if you wear a turtle neck and a backpack, it's like a midget is on your back choking you."

yeah, it's called "your brain"
not such if there is a program that does this, but i highly doubt it. the final "mosaic" seems like it would be too subjective for a computer to do. but, who knows, anythings possible

go warez alienskin's xenofex. although it takes one image and forms the mosaic out of a million small instances of the big image. 's the only one i can think of offhand.

I think the program in question here is a big image database thing. It's been used to create WIRED covers and that kind of stuff.
From what I understand, the program sifts through a large database of images and organizes them by color, value, density, or whatever parameters it's set to. Then you give it a source image, and it creates a new image with the tiny images substituted for individual pixels. I've seen some Star Wars posters made from lots of Cinemascope images. Pretty cool.
So, this would be something on the order of a big (probably academic) system, not a commercial product. Not something you can get access to without some tall dollars.

Rob Silver -- http://www.photomosaic.com/ -- is the guy who started this craze. He did all those magazine covers. |
