Is there a program out there where I can paint directly onto a Quake 3 model?
Thanks

There's a new package where you can paint directly onto models called BodyPaint by Maxon. Don't know much about it though.

I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it.

Well there's Deep Pockets 3D with texture weapons. But I suggest just having PS and 3DS open at the same time and refreshing the texture when you want to see your changes. |

well if your trying to make a skin for a Q3 model you dont paint directly on it. you can go into the pak file and find the textures in there and paint over them and add your own stuff on to them. if you want a good site for stuff like this go to www.polycount.com they should have some good resorces there |

oh ok well i also have a program called deep paint. i believe thats what ben barker was talking about (not sure though). anyways, its kinda cool and fun to mess around with, but i dont think it would be better or easier. i dont see it giving you the same quality. even though ive seen some really good pics done with it. who know. maybe it just take a lot of practice. heres a link if you want to check it out www.us.deep-paint.com/company/home.htm |

Jezebel,
Don't know if this helps or not (Bit on the expensive side if you don't already have the software). I import the models into 3DStudioMax and from there use Painter 3D as a plugin.
That is how I directly paint onto the Quake 3 models.
Painter 3D might work on some of the other 3D packages though... |

Now I don't know anything about 3D modelling... just painting. Do you think that program will be too hard for me to use?
Are you saying the plugin is expensive or 3DS is? Because I already have 3DS.
Thanks =)

Well 3DS is the expensive one, but looking at the Corel Site just now, I don't see Painter 3D even offered anymore. So, I don't know if it is still possible to get it anymore. I got my copy a year or 2 ago.
Perhaps I should have checked that the product still existed, but I just assumed it would.
Sorry! |

If you can save an OBJ out of MAX with UV coords intact then you should be able to use just about any 3D painting program to paint the texture, and it should fit back into max without any problems.
There are lots of 3D Paint progs around but they're all pretty expensive. Deep Paint, Painter 3D, Detailer, Flesh etc.
There are only two that I can think of that are free; NST (NPherno's Skin Tool), and possibly GIMP.
NST is a 3D Paint prog for Quake1 and Quake2 models, and it may be possible to save your model out as a Q2 model, do the painting, then use the texture on your Q3 model. NST's tool set is very limited though, it's really best for getting things started, then finish it off in PS.
In the case of GIMP (which is an excellent freeware painting program) I recall a few months ago reading of a plugin that let you use it to paint on 3D models. Don't know more than that though.
Row.
