hey everyone. i've gotta hand it to all of you, seeing the recently explosion of art on here has really helped me to stick with digital art, and i've learned SO much these last couple of pictures, i can't believe it.

here's my "showdown" picture. sorry for the seperate thread, but i have doubts about anyone looking at page 5 of a 2-month-old thread.

i'm more of a line artist than a painter, so i tried really hard when i was coloring to break away from my usual wishy-washy watercolor style and try something a bit more bold. i'm reasonably happy with the result...

Nice, I like it. I think it came out really well and I like the line work underneath. I know what you're talking about being hung up on doing line work though. Recently I've been doing almost all my paintings without any kind of line work underneath...just blocking in shapes using midtones. It helps get that painterly effect you're looking for. I really like the coloring you did though. Great job!

So what is with the sword in the foreground? I'm not quite sure

Looks really good. The girls right leg (the very left one) seems a bit whacked. It looks twisted at funny angles. Also, I think it would look better without the sword at the bottom.... right now we have no idea what's going on with that sword.. if it's lying down on the rofcks, if someone's holding it. If you do want to include it, you need to perhaps show someone holding it and change the angle. Also, the man standing in the distance looks like he is pissing or something. the posture he's in is a bit odd as well... wait actualyl now that I look at it it makes perfect sense Sorry ignore that last bit up there. But, everything here looks really great. I hope the bear gores that little red-eyed bastard. Hope to see some more work from you and hope i wasn't too harsh.

thanks for the comments, ladies and gentlemen!

i see the point about the sword. my original idea was to make the image a little more gorey and have blood dripping down the rock from where the sword was, and some on the bears paws & on the ground.. in the rush to finish painting it, i forgot to add the blood, and i think i may like it better without.. i'm not sure. maybe i'll just erase the sword.

thanks again for the comments!

might also answer eviltoylet's question about the girl's right leg. i think the anatomy is pretty much correct, but you never know. i was particularly happy with the way that foot turned out.

Jeff: Well about the lef thing.. it's the leg furthest away from the bear. It looks... a bit odd. I think it's because of the shading. But naturally, I think that foot would be lower than the other due to the angle she's standing at... but it isn't. So then it looks like her foot is elecated on something, but nothings there. That little smidget of highlifhting on the very left could be it. I may be wrong though. (about this hwole leg thing) It looks like the knee is right in the middle of that highlight..
