Hey all, my sirst image post to the forum, just after some constructive criticism. Been working on him in my spare time.
Eventually want to rigg and animate him using some of the new feature in LW6.5.

I don't know much about 3D modeling, but this looks very well done. I was able to copy and paste you model...
By the way, nice name! From The Silmarilion, right?

Hey, I am working in an orc/troll too...take a look at mine, it is similar to yours (though not textured yet). I'm making it in Max, not LW.

Looks great, Melkor
Looks pretty clean too, I was trying to figure out how you constructed the head, got any construction shots?
From the screen shot, You're surface looks great, whats the polycount on it?

No crits, good job!

Both of those look cool. Is the LW made out of poly's or curves?

Wow.. That's beautiful.

No wonder I'm still afraid to try to model a head.. It's because of people like you who make everything I do look like crap. Good job, though...

It is definitely looking good.
Looks like you know what is up with the whole topology deal. Though i am sure you know this, just try and keep the number of triangles to a minimum. looks like you are doing pretty well with that so far.
Other than that, add some more geometry and pimp him out a bit. Breathe some life into him, give him a little character. You don't want him to be just another troll, you know?
here is a wireframe of the chick i am working on that i posted a bit earler.Maybe it helps, maybe it i sjust shameless self promotion. who knows?

Zeebit...are you preparing your figure for animation? I think so, looking at the way you've made your modelling similar to the way the face's muscles lay in reality.
Just a curiosity: by what part of the head did you start?

A question for Zeebit: did you use patching technique to make that wonderful head? If not, what else is it?

Thanks everyone.

Get-up Kid - Yep, Melkor, is from the Silmarillion, my fav. book.

Samdragon - Thanks mate, basically I started with the nose (as I usually do) and worked out from there, using point extrudes and smooth shifts. Using LW's sub-surfaces to keep checking my progress. I'll post some construction shots when I get abit further on into the model.

elam - polyies while modeling, basically LW is all polygon modeling, I'd like a good spline modeling plugin for LW, like max's surface tools (dont know if its still called that)

]Aratex[ - ehh, just keep trying, you will get there, I still consider myself just a average modeler, still have heaps to learn.

zeebit - great head, Im jealous :-) Thanks for the tips.

LordArioch - been reading too much Michael Moorcock, yeah me too. Thanks

laps - thanks.

Hope I did'nt forget anyone.
