Alright. I'm about to give up with drawing from line sketches. It isn't working. My figures look cartoonlike. I've tried drawing with block color and it looks much better. What are some tips you can share to make the process a little more smooth?

k, here are a couple of line crap stuff. The original sketches are much better (they've been lost, however, over the months and layers).

My experimentation with block color painting has been turning out much better, but I haven't tried anything large-scale yet. Just looking for pointers.... |

Hybrid: I think the method you're trying to get into gives better results, but you must forget the black lines... they don't exist in real life. Use colors to create shades for distinctive shapes instead of using lines.
Study anatomy or practice some more at it, also work the colors a bit more, get more variance than a small set of the same hue and value... get a clearer understanding of lighting, etc.

Hey... you really should pick a light source. Your pics look like light coming from everywhere and nowhere at the same time...

Thanks for the tips. I definitely need to work with light. And yes, I guess the obsession with line must cease. I'm just horrible at getting rid of it. Every piece I get to, I just quit at that point *sigh*. |

eek!
I believe you about the sketch being much better hehe. Anyway as Frost here said, you think too much about the lines. Painting generally isn't easy, but you also have to think different (MAC!!).
You must have texture that expresses itself.. Colors that you can almost see yelling: "I AM A WARRIOR!!!" and so on..
Here is a great tutorial for digital painting: http://www.gfxartist.com/features/tutorials/wizard/index.shtml
However i don't completely agree with his SMUDGE ALL technique..
