Anchors away home slice.....
This is a design for the cave of the mother dragon in the children's story I am illustrating. In the coloring I decided to stick to only a few colors. This is not how I would color it in the final, aways from now.
Well I am under a big time crunch right now so here ya go.
Sketch
Color
Thanks

Hrmm.. well it is inded a cave But anyway, the rock on the bottom looks a little wierd... My idea, since it's a childrens book is actually make the dragons cave in the shape of a dragons head/mouth. But... Yah, I like this one as well. Cept what's that blue thing on the right?... can't figure it out. w\well, great pic so far. The colors, hrmm... Maybe a little more than just rocks? Perhaps bones and all sorts if it's meant to be scary.. or make the dragon cave more exquisite. Hope my comments help. |

Hey Blitz thats a nice color job. I really like how you captured the feel of the location while only using a minimum of colors. My favorite part of it is the waterfall worked into the rocks. I would actually enlarge it if you could find the time. maybe have it spill down ono the path leading into the cave, and then through the teeth that line the lower ridge, before cascading down the mountain.

Thanks guys
Yes the blue thing is SUPOSE to be a water fall. I am going to use refrence pics for the final pic.
I did design the cave to look like a dragons mouth but I wanted it to still look as if it was natural and not an exact duplicut of a dragon The thought did cross my mind. |

I rather think that it does look like a dragon's mouth in a way, though not so blatantly obvious that it bothers me. Very neatly done actually.
The whole thing has a soft feeling to it, and yet somewhat intimidating. But not so scary that children will dislike it (you have to step carefully when drawing for kids, but I'm betting you know that already )
Hm... anything more to say? Well, I did see that it was a waterfall almost immediately, even though you need to work on it

Thanks Enayla
That is kinda the point. The dragon that lives in it is not mean. Just upset that her baby is missing.

It is supose to be a dragons mouth. The rest is up to you wether or not you see an eye, horn, ear. I have had several people find a dragon in different rock formations.
I was thinking a final pic might be a little more alive. Some snow maby.(Flex Elf will like that) Just a little thought resting on some mossy kinda grass that crawls down some of the rocks.
This is the final place the two kids will be trying to reach during the story.
I will keep you guys posted on all the pics and story that I can.

aaah my favorite jubject fantasy creatures. The road is too small for the dragon to use it make it bigger. The dragon can't fly in because he can't land there but since this is a children tale that is not that important. The colored pic looks a lot different thatn that doodle. |

I will probably make the ledge a bit bigger in the final. The dragon is big but not huge. I imagin her to be a bit smaller than the cave opening.
Any crit on the actual paint, lighting, what not..

It wont be scarry..
In the final pic for this aria there will be more color. It will look alot less dark and creapy yet still give off a feeling of mistirious and grand.
