I would like to welcome myself to this board. I am a first time poster.... long time reader/drooler. Some of the artists that post here are the most talented on the web. But I'm stating the obvious to those who know.

So here is my latest creation. It is the first piece that I have done that I feel is quality enough to post on this board.

I would like to know what some of you think. Be gentle.

Also before anyone asks about it, I purposefully made his arms a bit long. I figured that if someone were going for cybernetic arms, they would probably want a longer reach. Like a boxer.

This is hopefully going to be a character design as well as a printable promotional pic. And that is why there isn't any kind of busy background image.

Take care and keep drawing.

Thanks a heap,
Rattmouth

Hey! looks great. Sorry that I don't have much time to comment and critique on.

One thing that I noticed was a bit odd is the bottom of the cape. Looks like it's turning outwards instead of inwards like it should be. So, making the dsides longer.. or even changing the lighting can help. But anyway, I really like the pic. Btw.... the background doesn't really match in with the picture. Might be better if you didn't have one., or one that's more realistic.. as the style where the background is realistic and characterish cartoonish looks pretty good.

Thanks guys n' gals for all the critiques. It means a lot to me to have my peers' opinions.

EviLToYLeT: You know I never noticed that the cape was odd until you brought it up. And as soon as I read your post, it was very obvious to me that you were completely right. And from now on it just looks weird to me (like some damnable optical illusion). I wanted the fabric to look like there was a great deal of material there. It is intended to appear to ripple back and forth. And the front side is the closer ripples. If you want to see the image without a background, here it is http://www.rattmouth.com/images/sci-fi/hannibal-big.jpg

Maruman: Your are correct as well in noticing the lack of atmosphere in the planets. An early compromise I had to deal with. All of this art is going to be used in an online card game that is in production. The three planets are the three populated planets in this galaxy and were drawn to be eventually used as references in the game. Not like a globe or a map or anything like that, but in ways that they would need to be easily distinguished from one another. I tried to put a lot more atmosphere in there at first, but it kept taking away from the details of the planets (unless I lowered the opacities way down). Another thing is that this is meant to be highly stylized, because the planets are actually light years away from each other. I wanted that background to look like a giant screen with some kind of graphic depiction of the planets on it. If I were a bit more advanced at photoshop I probably would have done a better job.

faustgfx: What do you mean by old school cyberpunk stuff? You have piqued my interest. Plus, I have no idea what you are referring to.

And to everyone else thanks for the the great comments and support. I will continue to post my work on this board as they see completion. I still have much work ahead of me.

Thanks again,
Rattmouth

Nice work, Ratt. There are too many colors for my taste, and it could possibly benefit from some more dramatic lighting, but it's very well rendered.
