Hey I finally finished another pic. It's the first scanned and coloured with mouse for me. But I like the result. And now I want YOU! to tell me what you think about it. All those anatomy-gurus lurking around here can perhaps tell me what's wrong with his right leg. It looks strange to me but I can't say what it is although I switched it horizontally.
Oh and please keep your English primitive... cause I'm from germany.
Don't be a muluhumu and answer my post!

well to begin with the leg on the left (when you look at the pic) seems to have a HUGE toe. And the loincloth does not seem to be part of the picture but rather like something that has been slapped on. And where are his nails?
But it is nice so im gonna store it. |

Cool, cool. Looks good. My suggestions would be...
1. Define the details more. Some of them are blurry and vague.
2. There's a red outline on some parts suggesting a secondary red lightsource, but it isn't consistent throughout the pic. (For example, it reflects on his torso but not on his leg)
3. Looks like you used dodge and burn? You should go in with the paintbrush/airbrush and work in some different colors and maybe add some brighter highlights.
That's about it. It really does look cool. Mainly I think you should work on details. Just force yourself to keep working on the pic. Nothing major, just zoom into areas and add little dents and creases and bumps and whatnot. Some bright highlights in areas would help too. You're definitely improving though. Nice job. |

Hey thanks for the crits guys!
@Dives: Yeah, the toe looks a bit huge... but it isn't If I could draw some nails you would see. I tried, but with mouse it's kinda hard and I couldn't really figure out how they should look...
@Tinusch: Thanks man!
1. I really dunno how to. Perhaps you could show me what you mean. Just on the head...perhaps?... that would do enough to show me. I tried to render clouds or other textures but that doesn't do the job...
2. Yeah I fixed that in the original picture. I realised it too after loading the one above up. But I thought it would be too less changings in the new version to upload an updated pic.
3. I only used dodge/burn on the loincloth and even there very few. And I thought about adding other colours... but what exactly u mean? I can't make him green or somthing, cause... well he isn't green.. he's the devil.
Thanks a lot again. What do the others think? I guess I will never learn doing some details...
BUT I WON'T GIVE UP THE FIGHT!

Basically, I just tweaked the drawing a little bit. I didn't do anything drastic. First I went in with a tiny black brush and defined the little details like on the mouth and the nose. The smile was just a personal choice, I think he looks more evil that way. I used a bigger brush to shade the bottom of the face just to give him more structure. I used the same brush to move the shadow on his neck. It seemed like it belonged there considering the lightsource. I think the white highlights gave it a lot more depth and style, so I thoroughly abused them and made him nice and shiny. That's basically all I did. Jst little details and definitions. I also added some red to the back of some parts, because with the intensity of his skin I thought there'd be some red cast onto him. |

Thanks a lot, man! I will work a bit on the pic and see what I'll get. Some detail studies...
But now another question pops up in my brain. What kind of detail can I do on plain skin? I mean there are not everywhere small cracks, breaks, cloumns and gaps on your skin. What kinda texture do you use? Any tutorials to recommend?

Caseron: well what is your skin like? veins and diffferent shades of pink and perhaps hair. Now try drawing some veins or defining muscles better and adding that nice glow and shadow. Im sure you will think about a dozen more things while you draw. |

What do you think... I added some detail. Not really skin.structure. I just guess I can't do that. And I will never be able...
Ok, here you are:

I don't get it... yeah, maybe it looks like a cutout. But how can I fix that? Adding a background? But you said the loincloth also looks like copied and pasted... any suggestions?
Thanks for your time |

Umm... I worked a bit on the head... and I would like to know what you think about it? Do I, also if slowly, get there?

try giving it a coat of wax and see what it looks like. I think that should help you a bit. But you are improving. |

Yeah, you're definitely on the right track. Just work on refinement and detailing. Tighten the image up. Go in with tiny little brushes and carve out little details here and there. Sharpen up the cracks/wrinkles/etc. Add some shine/lighting. You've already gotten through the hard part, I think the most fun part is detailing. Just tweak the pic until you're happy with it. |

Hey man I must say that pic is great and its coming along especially if you're just using a mouse.
One thing that I noticed and I don't think anyone has said anything about is the shades of red on the body and the leg. The shade on the leg looks a lot more orangish than on the body. I can't tell if that is because of the light because I see the same color highlights on parts of the upper body. It's just on the leg I don't see the same color red as on the upper body just that orangish color.
edit: I just read over my post and I hope it makes some sense.

The pic looks good and its getting better.. but there's one thing that_really_bugs me about the later versions. It's that pentagram. The symbol really doesn't have anything to do with the devil, and the way you have it there (single point pointing upwards) it's actually a symbol for light and goodness. So if you really really want it in there, then you should probably make it pointing down. Unless you don't care about accuracy, in which case just disregard this whole post.
Tinusch: I really like your version of the head!
