Hi synj,

I think i can help you: try downloading the demo version of PaintShop. it comes with animationShop. In that little prog you can export the frames to PaintShop, redo them and export them back to the AnimationShop for re assemble.
Hope it's clear enough.

I've been watching your work for a long time (dont let the post number to confuse you) and all i can say is: YOU'RE GREAT!

Why don't you just create a custom palette when you convert the file to indexed colors? Don't use the preset ones and then make sure you've got those colors in the background.

Synj,

It looks like the color palette you're using. Are you creating the animation frames as 24 bit then converting to 8-bit gif. If so, try pre sorting the 8-bit colors in photoshop or whatever before converting it to gif (use web safe colors for the smallest file size).

If that's isn't it, look for a dither to nearest color checkbox and turn it off.

Synj,
When you convert to index color in Photoshop, you have the option of using "Previous." So what you can do is make a dummy file, say 72x72, pick the flat colors you want from the original file. Then convert the dummy file to index using "adaptive", which will convert to only a few colors. Then convert your real file to index using "previous" which will use the colors you picked out.

Hope that helps.

OK, I've got a question: I've seen the word 'Dither' for like 5 years, and I still don't know what it does/means. Can someone clue me in please?

yeah, it means taking a solid color and using 2 or more colors with real close pixels of them to "fake" that solid color. looks icky. look at the first and last pics and compare the overall background. you'll notice on the first one it's not just 1 color. that, is dithering.

speaking of santa, i redid the 'visiting santa' animation so it actually looks like santa now.

well, i have 2 new avi animations of my 3D characters ready, but the movers have it still (i moved to LA for my job). those would be koy 3 and ghrib 4 that are awaiting. they guaranteed they'd be here by the 6th, so dont fret!
