Okay, I don't post here much anymore, but I read everyday, so I hope someone remembers me.
Anyways, when you say 'veteran' members, does that just mean the artists that get lots of replies? Because I've been here since the beginnings of the board (my account was corrupted in January) and I am serious about art. I'm sure there are many new people (not newbies) that are also serious about art.

BurnOut had a good idea. Close registration for a while. We already have too much activity.

Nori, well said. hehehe!

Optic: I totally understand you. A lot fo the time I post a picture and get about 4 replies. Which isn't very much. Then I'll look at another thread and some idiot has posting a stupid irrelevant topic and has LOTS of replies. It just doesn't make sense.
And so it just makes me think that people are less interested in critiques and rather reply to other stuff.

The serious forum might work, but then you'll have idoits wanting to get in there to post shit all over the place.

There really isn't a definitive answer, but maybe Dhab should give the forum splitting a trial run. If that works, leave it.

If not, try the serious forum. If that doesn't work, this place is going to hell.

ok.. man.. this is a heavy thread..
i signed up at the begining of november.. but i have been reading for months... this is the first time i felt like posting.

i like the "elite" forum idea to some extent.. it would be cool to just read and look at works in progress with discussion and friendly advice being posted.. i dunno..
perhaps there should be an "elite" forum (but ya definatly gotta call it somthin else).. with a "young grasshoper" forum next to it where young talent can post and ask for advice and get quality thought out suggestive feed back.. of course this board would need to be STRICTLY moderated.. just posts with serious questions or serious answers.. if u like learning.. your user/pass would be allowed acces to post in the "elite" forum.. however i dont think you should have to do A LOT to prove yourself but just being curteous and serious for a small number of posts in the "grasshopper" forum should be enough.. you can always get kicked out of the "elite" forum.. i wouldnt ip ban tho.. because alot of isps yous dynamic assignment and you'd have to ban tho whole subnet which isnt fair.. unless networking technology has gone past me knowledge.. *thwap self* ..

i realize th irony of continuing this thread but at this point it like throwing a teaspoon of gasoline into a forest fire..

PS.. 3dpalette was doing sijun forum roundups where they'd go thru the forums and link to the threads with cool art work and good learning experiences/advice.. thats how bad its gotten

I know its long, but please take the time to read:

Hi guys. I suppose that since I was the one who mentioned the Elite Forum in the first place, I should clear a few things up. To start, here is my vision:

Imagine a place on the internet where you could go, and every time you opened it you KNEW there was going to be something wonderful and inspiring. It would be a place where any person could visit, and be amazed, and get new and wonderful ideas. We have all seen personal galleries on the internet filled with wonderful stuff, but does every person with a crayon post their stuff here? No. They watch, they listen, they learn.
It would be a buzzing art community of giants. You could sit and hear them speak amongst themselves about any art related subject. And someday, if you listen to them, and use what you have seen, you too could join their ranks, converse with them, learn even more. But most of all, have close knit communications with people who think like you, and understand you.

Now, remember that this is the Idealized version of it. I was glad to see that some of you understood what I meant.
Here are a few of my backup thoughts:

I never once said that it would be a part of Sijun. It could be anywhere, with any group of powerful artistic minds.

It would be open to ALL people to see, they just simply wouldnt be able to post until they were approved. Watching is how most people here learn anyway.

How can we say what is good and what isnt? That is a matter of personal viewpoint. The short man will say the normal man is a giant, and the giant will say that the same man is small. I know what I like, but I dont know what you like. I think however, that if there were several of these across the net, it would create and interesting diversity.

Is it biased? Yes in a way it is. But when a butcher cuts off the bad part of a roast, is he discriminating against it? Its about the final product. AND before anyone quotes this and flips out, YES I understand that this survivalist attitude seems totally out of place and cruel, but this is the ART community, what doesnt kill you makes you stronger. If you arent good enough to join, dont kill yourself. Get better. I would find this a GREAT motivation. It would be a great boost to think If I get a little bit better, Ill be drinking tea with the giants by Tuesday.

Dont take this personally. Please. It was only a suggestion.

Now Ive gone on way to long, but maybe someone out there might think this idea would be kinda keen. I would visit a place like this every day. To me, that is what the Sijun forum was for a while, and I couldnt get enough.

Now it is time for me to sleep.

I can't say that an elite forum would be a good thing.
I've noticed a lot of ego's in this forum lately. Some have posted work they thought they did well on, looking for helpful critiques, and been slammed.

An elite forum would only inflate your heads even larger. All of you remember that there's always someone better, and that the goal of this forum is for the better artists to help the struggling artists who are willing to learn.

I agree that lately there have been several people whom I don't believe contribute anything at all. Whether it be helpful advice or interesting art.
Yes, some of this needs to be weeded out. However, an elite forum, in my opinion, isn't the way to go.

*steps off the soapbox*

Have you guys noticed that the artists who really made the forum (spooge, Loki, Frost, feng, francis, waccommonkey, Flinkstone and co are pretty low key while the shit talkers and clowns are growing by the minutes.

Maybe "elite" isn't an appropriate word to use. How bout "serious"? I think everyone would agree that the folks I listed are probably the more professional and helpful of the forum members. That is just a starting point. You would be inviting friends who you think would benefit from the forum. Discrimination? More like a job interview to me.

Logically speaking I guess you all would be right. It probably wouldn't work. I know that most of the "art-gods" here are good natured people and would feel that they are neglecting people by being in their own little club. I understand the concern. I'm just trying to help come up with a solution. This isn't it, so what next? Back to the moderator I say. Simple yet effective.

How about splitting up a forum for starters and getting a few moderators to make sure topics are posted where they belong? This elite cast system isnt going to help anyone, if you are that serious about your art go to an art school and get your professional critiques.

[edit] text removed due to frustrated coments that will only cause more arguments.

In peacful terms, I'm not going to try to show people here what I'm thinking. THis is impossible, I wish it could be done, but becasue most of us here are "Perfect Melancoly" to the extreme it's not going to happen.

I'm out.

I think the idea about closing the registration form was a good idea.

This should have been done a long time ago hehe
