It seems like just in this week alone, especially today with all the bullshit posts and fake pics, more and more idiots are coming and in my opinion, ruining this board. Dividing it into sections for Finished, In Progress and Discussion forums will help, but I think when you make a new profile you must answer honesty this one question .. "Are you a fucking idiot who will bug everybody else? YES/NO" .. Those who answer Yes go to their very own forum with lots tits and jokes and MS Paint drawings they think are funny. The rest of us can enjoy our real forums.

Hi
yes I am afraid you are right and it is a shame that the forum turned around so badly. Have you guys noticed that the artists who really made the forum (spooge, Loki, Frost, feng, francis, waccommonkey, Flinkstone and co are pretty low key while the shit talkers and clowns are growing by the minutes.
I remember having such a respect for their artwork that I was waiting to show my stuff first after half a year. Before, I only came and read and learned. Finally when I posted my first stuff, my heart was really pumping.
today it looks like there is no respect for real hard work anymore and it is enough to shit on a piece of paper, put a funny text to it and just post it.
/cheers
Eckhardt

I just don't think Dhab's stance on Moderators is going to be viable.
a moderator has a responsability to keep the place free from spam. if there's only one mod and a friggen huge board then you are going to get stupid posts unless the mod is going to be here 24/7.
there is no way one mod is going to be able to stop anyone who wan'ts to fuck everything up
look at this "im" guy he's caused a shitload of spam and rubbish in a short time. one mod isn't going to be able to kick him off before he's done enough damage to make this place a waste of time.
It's just not a nice place to be anymore. too much spam. I'm supprised that the few "art gods" that are still around are here at all.
bah, damn shame............damn shame

Anyone want to start a breakaway Forum
I'm sorta kidding but I loved this palce when there were all thsoe cool people and not all the spam
gather all the peopole who are actuialy interested in digital art and then go off and start again. when the spam gets too much- go and shift again.
Blah I'm just too tired. (and pissed off) |

I'm sorry to say this, but I never thought Sijun would get this bad.
There were newbies popping up all the time months back, but none of them were such complete and utter arseholes.
There has also been an influx of new talent as well but it is all being drowned out by the crap that now appears here.
Such a shame. I also admit to a few pointless postings myself...

I'm not big on moderators. I have had run ins with some on other forums, but this forum is in definite need of one. I wouldn't mind doing it. I'm here pretty much all day. I'm sure if there were set guidelines then having moderator(s) wouldn't be that bad. So, vote Chapel in 2000! (j/k)
I'd hate to leave this forum, because there is soooo much talent hidden in here. |

Nah this is much deeper than "if everyone just doesn't post to spam It'll go away"
we have people spamning other people's threads with their shit.
We have to reply to posts that are "crappy" otherwise people will keep posting the same stuff. Thems are the rules.
The problem is that people who aren't interested in having a crap free forum are setting up shop here. it's not a bug that need to be nurtured to live. it has a life of it's own.
maybe the new changes will make the difference. but I'm not banking on it. |

Wouldn't it be nice to have an elite Forum? It's only a dream I know, but if in order to register you had to present a portfolio. I would be like a gentlemens club of artists, powerhouses helping powerhouses, until someday we emerge to be demi-god artists of ultimate doom.
Personally I think it would be nice, cut the fat, and just work out until we are good beyond belief.
It just sort of ticks me off when I see stuff like "Hi, I'm not very good, but have a look at..." I'm tired of seeing every artistic nook and cranny on the web filled with dung. It happened to Elfwood (I was one of the first hundred, so i watched it happen slowly) and It would be nice to create a sort of Ark.
Anyone like that idea?

Here is a little idea along the lines of Isric's. What if we had a password protected forum? The elite forum. Members are "invited" from the regular forum to participate. If you post useless topics or don't show any artistic potential then you never get invited. Plain and simple. Maybe it sounds wrong, but I think it would be more productive. Would probably have a better bond between the members, because it would be a closer knit group. Dhabih would just have the change the password on occasion. This would kinda give the new guys a goal. I think higher quality stuff would come out of it and it would phase out all of the junk.

Isric: Definately. And I think it's possible too. I don't know about this forum's mechanics, but I think some kind of approval to join would help to get rid of all the spam. Portfolio's a great idea, based on a web page...or links to images posted on geocities or something. I definately think this should be thought about.
Also, what if you have an option, like the moderator has, to delete a post. Give certain people the privelages, like Rinaldo, faustgfx, ceenda, Chapel, Isric, spooge, Liquid, and other people Dhabih approves of who can delete a post, or a spam reply to a good post. I would even be willing to do this, as I am a frequent user, and would do what I can to clean and upkeep the forum so it is a respected and professional source for critique and inspiration.
//edit: The password idea's a good one
//edit2: heh...wups :P I think I'll let Dhab decide who gets that privelage...

The elite forum is a good idea, although holds a few kinks...
First, how can you tell the person submitting his portfolio hasn't gone around and grabbed someone's work, shot it up on his geocities page and claims it for his own? Although, the people that the elite forum would try to prevent are the idiots, and idiots would probably grab pictures that people would recognize for fakes..
Secondly, who's the 'board' who decides what's good enough? Or is it even a factor of what's good enough or rather who has a serious interest in at least learning. I know I've never posted any of my work here, but I'm here every day, picking up tips, finding links to great sites where I've learned alot from. Maybe the person has to submit a personal profile or resume? Most of the 'idiots' might not be able to come up with some half decent essay on why they'd like to be welcomed into the elite forum.
I still think the passworded forum would be a great idea, I just want it approached carefully, lest those who come to learn from others are left groveling with the idiots who only come to screw around.
Anyways, just my $0.02.

Isric that is the most stupid idea you've come up with yet
who's to say which of us are allowed in.
'sides, a bunch of good people would get boring fast.
it's great to see people get better. passion is far more inportant than current skil level.
that's just a flame magnet and you know it.
I'm warming to chapels idea tho.
Opticillusion- if you make faustgfx a mod I'm gonna run the other way and never look back |

Okay, so we all agree that the forum has its problems... Does EVERYONE need to start their own thread about it? |

Well the idea of the "elite forum" would be to have it start with just a few members like Vortx, Francis, spooge, micke, joachim, and FE just to name a few. They would be The First (like that came up with that on my own.... crossgen wha?.. oh rubbish) Anyway, they would have the option to invite like 2 or 3 people. Just like here you would have a status. Depending who invites you would be like "Vortx's Apprentice" or something until you reach so many posts. Once you are no longer an apprentice you can invite members. The idea isn't just to invite those who already good, but those who show the desire to learn. You would have the best teachers to help.
By the way, just a little side rant. I find it funny that the people who keep making these posts have only been here 1 or 2 months themselves.

"a few kinks" you've all got to be kidding.
I'm wondering who Isric thinks is good enough??
I can think of a ton of people who will go mental if they aren't "listed" (me included )
I don't know why anyone is even entertaining the idea. |

I think the subject of this thread was a bit strong, but i have to agree to a certain point.
I don't have time to look through everything
anymore.
I just look for names that i know about, just to reduce the amount of spam to read.
I'm sure that many other do the same thing, and that leads to that alot of talented new (i refuse to call them newbies)
artists and people with alot of potential
will be ignored cause nobody is familliar
with their names.
I think personally that the point of this forum will disapear if a elite forum will come up. The people will just hang there and the rest will miss everything and not learn much. I, too miss Spooge, Fred and Synj and so many others that has been absent alot lately. I don't have a better solution, just watching this forum swallow itself whole
Shame.

Ehm..a elite forum......
Thats the same as saying, lets make it a veteran forum where all the members from the beginning stay (because it was all cool back then), the rest out.. you know? sound stupid? Yes.
It is discrimination. Then the purpose of the forum would be mainly just to showcase your art, not really getting any real crits. Although I think this is something going on now as well sometimes.
Blah..bad bad idea. I think splitting up the forum is the way to go. One for discussion, one for just posting art, one for random shit or similar..

Unfortunately I tend to agree with most everyone in this thread. Its not fair to the real, serious artists to have to go through countless stupid, useless posts just to find one good picture by a struggling artist that wants a little helpful critique. It is my opinion that defaming and flame posts should not be tolerated here. We're supposed to be artists that respect each others hard work and help each other. Im not saying that silliness isnt ok, but when its a bit rediculous when we have people who purposely choose fecal names and sit there calling down everyone who isnt a 'spooge' or 'micke' or such. I used to love this board and I would leave the browser window open all day and hit refresh every so often, now I open up this page once a day... maybe. Its a real pity. There are some great artists here and some great blossoming talent. We should at least try to mantain a certain level of maturity.
anyway, thats my two bits.

micke: I don't think it would be bad. There is still the option to check the main forum, but the elite forum will be more of a serious forum. I'd like to post things and know that it will get critiqued from some of the best in their given fields and receive outlooks from those that are up and coming. But as I see it now people critique just to critique whether they know what they are talking about now. This along with the useless posts just make the forum kinda ridiculous.
I'll say that I'm not very good. I've been trying to improve since I've joined the forum. I contribute and critique just to feel involved with the forum. I feel I have a good knowledge of the basics, but do to my inability to apply that to my own work I get taken lightly. So, instead of listening to my advice I get brushed aside and a request for Liquid! or Spooge or someone else is made. I like to teach as well as learn and right now it is hard to do either one. So, I feel in a more professional environment like the "elite forum" idea both the student and the teacher would prosper.
Ok...I'm rambling now, but if things don't change soon I'll just bookmark the sites of my favorite artists and be on my way. |

Chapel:
I did'nt see your post until after i posted.
I have to say that i would never take part in something like that and i'm pretty sure Joachim feels the same about it.
I'm sure your that you have a good intention with this, but i think that would be very unfair and discriminating.I would'nt feel good about it at all. I apreciate that you try to work out a solution, it's just that this does'nt sound right to me.

That sounds fair. But who says who's good enough to be in the elite board. Hey...how about if set a deadline and every one who wants to get into PRO board sends an entry pic and some judge will decide is good or not ? |
