I'd first like to say that hanging out here at this board for a week or so has been really inspirational. Without gushing too much, I will say that seeing all the remarkable artwork posted here has reminded me of how much I have yet to learn, and instilled me with a little "fire in th' belly" to put in the work to try some more challenging things.

With that in mind, this is an attempt (done this afternoon) at some "serious color" with a sketch I did a while back of Major Kusanagi (of Ghost in the Shell fame).

My previous attempts at complex, multi-colored lighting renderings have all failed, in part (I suspect) because anime-style faces don't take well to realistic rendering. Often if the shadows are too dark, they overwhelm the somewhat stylized linework. What do you think? Too much? Too little?

excellent job, especially with the fill light. my only complaint would be the white border around the image.

I really dig the hair and the sleeve. The only thing that sticks out to me is the chest area. Looks a bit unfinished/muddy. Other than that, looks cool!

peace.

Gosh G'DAMN that friggin rocks... I LOOOOVE the colors! You definetly got it right with that picture! Great shading for the face, and the sleeve is great! I agree with the previous statement though, that white border totally is killing the picture, its quite frankly annoying... Kill whitey! and everything will be fine! LOOL!

Of course, the edges will be cropped in the final version.

Oh yes... happy Turkey Day, everyone!

I agree. The chest needs a little work/cleaning up. Everything else is awesome!

Hey the image is cool and I like the way the colours are happening. The thing that struck me was the front of the chest is a little too dark. OK for the most part they are going to be in shadow but it isn't consistent. Look how brightly lite the face is compare with the torso. Also look at the arm, it is like there is a second light source as the light wouldn't reach that far around from the light behind it.

Something I'd suggest would be a glow effect or make the one at the moment a little more prominate.

You mentioned colouring anime so I thought this link might be of us (not for this one as such but for others)

How to Colour anime

Otherwise what you've got going on is really cool and I love the job that you've done with the cheek.

I like that pic, but I have problems with her nose and it's size relatively to the rest of her head (OK there are girls out there with big noses and all...).
Not that I only want to see the "perfect" girls that jump across the screens in comercials etc. , but I think this mangalike girl needs a smaller nose .

nice, the face looks like it's rendered. however, the torso has proportion issues compared to the head.

Nice pic, great lighting. I agree with the comment that her chest doesn't look finished. I think a little more definition might help but other than that great piece.

I on the other hand, think a different
*more dynamic* figure pose of the Major from
Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell would
reflect a nicer feel and challenge you to do fantastical lighting...

just my 2 cents
