I am using 3d studio max R3.1 and I want to texture a model I made (http://perl-bin.hypermart.net/3d/gun model2.jpg). I couldn't find anything to help me texture it, I was wondering if someone on here can help me with it or point me to a good turtorial. Im using a plugin called texporter that makes it 2D after you map. help ;D

I think you should focus on your modeling skills for the time beeing. I can see from your model you have some distortions, and no texture will fix that. Look for tutorials on modeling, and learn smart modeling. Then you can start with textures.

have a look here: www.3dluvr.com

ok, I suppose you are not planning to use this model as a real time model..it has nicely rounded edges.
anyway, if you use texporter, make sure you have used uvw map modifyer on it. Hmm..for your gun, I would have selected teh sides of the gun, and used texporter to get the unwrapped wireframes of this..and then do the same on the top, use planar mapping for this. and, maybe a cylindrical map on the gun barrel..and another planar mapping for the handle..
When that is said, a gun like this is not the easiest to start out mapping with. you should start out with simpler things at first..to familiar yourself with the basics. try modelling objects with less details..and experiment with mapping. best way of learning.
and..also. get a book. will help you in the beginning. Get the inside 3dstudio max book. its ok for newbies. I have only for max 2, but I assume the one for max 3 is good too...

Thanks alot man that helps me, I will try it with something else. One more thing I wanted to ask is like say I make a simples more right. After that I detach all the faces and then re-attach them. After that I make a clone of that and move it so it is unseen. Then I use tge Element subobject mode in 3dsmax and put them all in a sqaure like shape. after that I apply UVW map, and goto my textporter. Is that right, and if you have a better/easier way (or turtorial) please let me know. Thanks.
