This is another original painting I did for the loading screen for Unreal Tournament PlayStation2. This one is displayed when you are exiting a game and going back to the menus, so, I thought it would be cool to have a warrior resting after a big battle.

Woah, cool picture. At first glimpse it looks more like a classic fantasy picture, than related to a first person shooter. Very cool though, think I could post it as a POTD at 3dp? |

The picture is pretty amazing but the situation just doesn't work for me. OK the character is resting but what is he sitting on? Looks like he/she/it constructed a chair just so they could have a nice pose in. The character just doesn't look resting to me. If you are resting, why would you have a heavy gun strapped to your back, would you have taken it off and have it resting against your leg or something.
I've never played the game but if the character was resting from fighting a big battle, would they not be covered in sweat or something.
sorry to rip it apart as the image is fantastic from an art point of view. Just given the situation you've mentioned, I don't find it believeable (that is my 2 cents and probably why your making the game and not me)

I think this is a man at rest but he's troubled as though he just got through TKing half his team and is now wondering "Should I have done that?"

Ah geez...
I think it works the way it is. I don't think it needs criticism.
<BTW
Shane, I have your other UT painting as my background>

amazing pic
for me he is resting
well maybe waiting for the next fight
..doesn't matter
the tor(gateway?) is pretty cool
but I don't like the rest of the bachground that much
would like to see more shapes in it
...just an illusion of depth
keep up the good work

Good looking pic. Although, the forepart looks a tad detached because there is much more detail in the stone&carvings of the pillars in the background than on the rocks and on the guy in the front. It's a little difficult to decide where to focus your eye.

Nice pic, though you forgot the bullet holes in the building walls... oh wait, my bad... the building is burning rubble .
I know you guys had to rush things, but how could you forget that players can't shape thrones or resting spaces from dirt in the actual game? That's mean!! I was about to sell my PC version of UT (and my pc) to buy the PS2 version (but not the PS2 itself, funnyly enough)!!!
Also, what resolution does this image appear in for the load screens or instruction manual images?
I tryed a little test with Photoshop...shrinking the images to 320x224 and upping it to 640x480 and letting the bicubic happy fun emulate the blurry resolution of the TV. It looks good there too (though that errant "fire" swipe of the brush to the lower right catches my critical eye). |

Like the pose, looks as though he's deep in thought about how he's going to frag his next opponent. The textures on the arch and the background are real nice.
What's better the PC or PS2 version of UT? |

Great pic shane, you have really created an excellent mood with it. Something about the background is looking a littlt flat right now tho, maybe the textures are a little too sharp .. A touch of blur on the textures behind the pillars and making the pillars a tad darker might help break it apart a little.. Not really sure, just my opinion. Great work!
