Here's the first version
Now I know the background could use some work, but I'm not sure how to light it correctly, once I figure that out I will painstakingly flesh out the details.
And here's a reworked version.
Any comments.
Sorry I knew I wouldn't be able to post or work on this untill next monday, so I posted it before I finished. The belt I haven't got around to fixing yet. I was thinking about incoporating a pair of flippers somewhere in the image but, I don't know where.
thanks

I like the reworked version, you really fixed up the lights on the skin. Some of the lighting on the belt and some of her accessories is off, though.
Also, the background could probably use a bit of work. Sure, the detail is meant to be suggested, but you could make it a lot more dynamic with some more lighting and a little more detail.
But as always, the picture kicks ass.
Good job.

Well, I liked the horizontal stripes on on her suit in the 1st, but it was a good decision to add the goggles and stuff .
The lighting has improved
I like it very much. |

the character is nice. Bg needs more work. Turn those line into something more solid maybe. Many areas are too soft. You use soft brushes too much prolly. I have a urge to tweak that |

Yoshi. I'm just trying to block in the shapes in the background, eventually it will all get cleaned up. I'm still stumped on how to maintain the lighting correctly.
Any tips? |

Hey very nice pic indeed!
Two things that struck my eye:
* the shading on her left arm doesn't seem right to me... maybe its to harsh.
* the perspective of the pool behind her is seems a little awkward to me because its seen from above while the girl is seen from the front or maybe even a lil lower than that

BigWings, you're right I think I should soften up the shadow on the arm.
About the angle of the pool. She's on a raised platform about as high as the one in the background, she's about 5 or 6 feet off the pool deck.

skeezer.. I guess its okay with the perspective.. i thought she was standing right next to the pool
Ihave taken a closer look at the girl.. another thing that needs some work is her hand holding the gun... maybe you could round of the side of her thumb (innerside ) and add some more detail there

A bit of blurs but still good. I find it is very good to build on your work. Do the most general lites and shadows first, then a little more specific, then zoom in with smaller brushes. The little details matter more than the big ones. |

you should propably spend some more time on the background, sloppy look can look good but this is a bit too sloppy.
also things like the belt, the arm thing, and the weapon pocket thingie could use a bit of sharpening and more defining.
blow the pic up 5x, work the details, resize down to original. works.

I like it. Is the light comming upwards in the reworked picture? and from the left in the 1st one? I think you could work more on that. you might also want to draw a air bottle on her back. I don't think theyre sthat small. |

VERY NICE!!!
heh.. Everything here looks extremely good to me.. you guys find like every little detail in the pic that I completely miss...
(I'm normal, and normal people don't care what people do to their pics. Like lighting, but it's like an insult to get the lighting wrong here!!!
How long does it take you to draw something like that?? I was gonna ask u to draw one of her naked |

Lookn good bro.
I like the suggestion of making water dripping from her. It would be a nice touch.
For the record...I think we can all stop commenting on the back ground until we see the latest version. Its obvious it's not done.

hey thanks guys.
BigWings: You're right about the thumb. I'm still working on the pic. Mostly I posted this to find out if the lighting scheme in this one worked better than the first one.
FrageNSTIEN: I agree that the background needs work, but I think its the big details that count more. hehe. I just need to figure out how to describe the shapes better.
faustGFX: Hehe...Yes......I already know about the background, as I stated in my original post and in my reply. I haven't had time to finish it yet, but I put it in there so that you would know where she was.
The belt I haven't yet changed to fit the lighting, but I will.
Dives: Yes the light in the first one is coming from the upper left and the second from below. I thought the light coming from below would make more sense since the pool is the main source of light in the room. Which do you prefer? Also can you be more specific about what needs work about the lighting? Oh and the breathing apparatus is a rebreather. It only needs a tank about the size of a 1 liter pop bottle. Besides this is in the future hehe. Notice the harness on her shoulders. Her tank is in the small of her back.
SizzorIntake: About 4-5 hours. hehe. What's your e-mail.
Proximo: I want to do that, but I don't have any good reference for lighting water droplets. I'm going to try though. Can you suggest anything?
Thanks guys.

Well, it's a cool pic. Nice idea... but do you really think her little shirt thing would be open like that? It seems to me that if she was swimming before (moving her arms a whole lot) then it would have fallen off, and by that gun in her hand I wouldn't think that that wouldn't be a good thing to have happen. Although, whoever she's shooting may be distracted by her *ehem* attributes, but still.
It'd pay to work on the background more too.

Periadam: I think the vest is open a little too much. But as far as your comment goes. She unzipped after she exited the pool. It was obviously uncomfortably tight. heh. The arms really aren't used that much underwater, if you have fins then you keep your arms to your side. I've been scuba diving for 3 years. Very cool sport.
Lukias: hehe. The breasts are actually in the same place. I just need to highlight them more to show their placement better.

Boy am I going to get a rep for being a fat bastard or what! but anyway here goes:
I think the painting is pretty good, of course you have a lot of work to do if you want to handle the background like that - but I think the main thing to crit here is the whole idea of the painting.
There is quite a bit of fromage here. (that's canadian for cheeze). I mean whazzup with all these stiff, static, posey-girls mugging for the cameras????
She is obviously a model, not a character, with a personality. You are cheating yourself of a chance to make a picture that has mood.
Nobody is going to buy into your story/setting/intent if you slap a pinup girl in there. She looks like she's trying to make lovey-eyes not infiltrate a secret base....
Anyway, you get my point, take it or leave it....
Any counter comments? A little honest crit is good for the soul!
keep painting!

Well, I agree. That was my first thought when i looked at it "oh look! She's broken into the base but she only wants to get nekkid"
She could still be gettin nekkid but not in such a..posed...modelly..fresh off the cover look.
I really like the colors you used and it is well painted, but i agree with those statements
P.S.I'm from canada too, maybe its something about the cold weather, us not jumping over every horney adventure bimbo

Man! How many times do I have to reiterate? The background is not done. I don't and never did intend to leave it in its current state. It's simply to illustrate her location at the moment.
Marc_taro: I agree, partially... This really is supposed to be a fun pic. It's not exactly deep. It was meant to be cool looking cheese. But I understand where you're comming from. I'm currently working on some serious characters and some serious scenes, those will be more true to life.
Isric: I think its just you Canadians. hehe.
-Skeez
Rob M: you asked on a previous post if I was taking any classes. No.. not currently dealing with photoshop. I was and will be taking more though. I used Photoshop two years ago for about four months, and then again starting in October of this year. My PS work previous to October is unbelievably bad. hehe. I do all my work at school during off hours with a wacom tablet.

Hey marc_taro you fat bastard....just playn
I know exactly what you mean on the pinup girl issue. I like J Scott Camble's art, But can you really take those girls seriously as crime detectives in his comic Danger Girl..NO/ On the other hand I know exactly what Skeez was going for. Its obvious its not a deep pic when she is breaking into a fortress and striping at the same time. I believe there is room for all kinds of art. And Cheeze posed Girls dripping wet with their top zipped down is one of them. Does this make me or Skeez a perv..no... just guys who like blue haired Women.
On another point. HIS BACKGROUND IS NOT CLOSE TO DONE. This should be understandable by now.
Any hoo
