I was assigned this book to read for english. I only have to have the first 3rd read by tuesday. Thank god.

I don't understand what the hell is going on in it! I get the part where she is going to go to China... but then it starts skipping around to her childhood? At least I think.

I'm on page 90 something... it's probley the most stupid book i've ever read. I'm just wondering... am I the stupid one? Or is it the book?!?

What's up with Amy Tan? Every book she writes is the same. "OH! My Chinese mother always humiliates me! I'm torn between cultures!"

Joy Luck Club sucks my ass. And poorly, at that.

Amy Tan is just as bad as Toni Morrison and every other damned author on the Oprah Book List.

PS- Dillinger Escape Plan rocks.

The movie was good.

No doubt my love for asian women had a little to do with that

As far as the plot...the story jumps around because it is trying to explain the life stories of these women and why they see the world as they do. The same reason you see this book as boring because of your past playing video games and watching TV so much that you have A.D.D.

Understanding why others see things the way they do is THE key to being a success in this world. If you can't understand others and what they want, you will not ever get what you want.

I'd take the book a little more as a lesson on figuring others out and why people are assholes or torture themselves so much with pity, rather than as a boring assignment on some random culture you have no interest in.

Humans are basically the same everywhere, they have wants, needs and don't understand their parents.

You're probley right, but it'd help if i knew what was going on. And i would probley know what was going on if i could get into the book.. but i guess i'm just not really interestred in it. I hate forced topics. and the book still doesent make very much sence... i'm not speed reading through it either. I am actually trying to understand it.

When I read the book I thought it was bullshit because of what it said about inter-racial relationships. The author was basically going on about how usually the difference in culture of the two people is too much for them to set aside and just love eachother. I thought... "THis is BULL SHIT! If two people love eachother enough, then none of that should mean anything...right?!"

Boy did I get a wake up call when I moved to Singapore. There is something silent and mysterious about Chinese women that I have yet to fathom.

p.s.
thanks orchid...

Oh, and about the book itself. I would suggest reading it but when I have to turn in some gay-ass report the next day and have had way too much on my plate to actually be able think about the meaning of the book I go here.

hope that helps..
