Well, Mozeman and I (and company) have finished a couple web animation projects. If you're interested, you can check them out at http://www.distantcorners.com . It's a "Flash" site, so you'll have to find the "Original Sins" button and then find the show titled "Bad Vlad." The first episode is online. Be warned, the file may take a few minutes to buffer in. There's another called "Wish You Were Here" that we did too.
Anyway, please give us feedback. We sure had fun working on it. |

Whoa, that was awesome.
I like how the backgrounds you posted earlier turned out, it's good to see them in context. I'm always amazed at the quality you guys are able to get using flash. I'm still learning it myself. It's good to see someone push the envelope, and tell a good story with "limited animation". I really like the opening shots where you are pushing through the jungle. Both of those were really well done.
Can I get an AMEN? ;-)

Great stuff guys
A little bit of a morbid subject matter with Jim Jones, but interesting nonetheless. I particularly like the Matrix influence on Vlad (the techno music during the fight - a different spin on the Dracul tale) Will there be any limited bullet cam animation in the future did you catch the recent t.v. depiction about the true story of Vlad.
Where do you guys go about finding these projects, is it word of mouth, or do you pound the pavements?
Good work keep it up

Thanks for the replies so far.
Xoco: Thanks. No. The BG's for Vlad were simply painted in Photoshop and imported. The ones in Jonestown were drawn in Flash.
Bacon: Thanks! Yeah, it's funny how fast the BG's go by in the cartoon. Thanks for your comment. We are really trying to see how far we can go with this medium. Many other high-end animators snob Flash. But we see it as just another platform and want to see what Flash can do. It all comes down to story in the end.
GC: Thanks! Yes, these stories are both extremely dark. Ninja Scroll was the biggest influence on Vlad, actually. The music sort of came later, so I guess it all created a Matrix feel No, I heard about the Vlad TV show, but we missed it. To answer your question about projects: we have a manager. But most of it is word-of-mouth. Mozeman and I do no selling ourselves (ick!). |

Cool stuff Alias. The only thing is the sound comes off with alot of static. All the characters sound like they have speech impediments. Some of the poses in a few sequences don't look quite right. Like when he jumps on top of the carage. Is this you and your brother's full time job or do you two do other things? |

Kaiju, yeah, the compression really hurts the sound quality. At higher res, the sounds sounds pretty good. I know what you're saying about some of the poses. Hey, we're on super tight schedules, heh heh. To answer your question, yes, we are co-owners and we do this stuff all day long. We're trying to work with the limitations of online animation at present (getting better).
BTW, here's a link to some of the screenshots, including the carriage one you're talking about:

Yeah, I saw that pic. It looks ok in the screenshot, but it may just be the way he got to that position that looks weird. I had to learn flash myself and I think there are probably a few things you could add to improve some of the action sequences. It has been awhile since I have played with flash though. |

alias good work on vlad man . I really liked everything about it. It is so amazing the quality of animation that you got using flash you are using much more key frames then me I think. I know waht you mean by using more posed animation rather then full fluid animation like Disney. The more dynamic posed scenes really help keep the believablity of flash animated cartoons . I think you hit it right on the number...you guys should trying doing your own anime it would be very popular for americans artists to do a good anime..imagine an anime with a good story...you would be rich beyond your wildest dreams . Kepp posting links whwn you get donn with your projects. God that had some sweet backgrounds and good lip syncing....good color scheme...really good work man..I will have to have you check out some of my stuff when I clean it up a little better....Can't waite to see more man good luck! Ohh and dont forget to post it on like www.hotwired.com and anywhere else you can get exposure! |

Kaiju, yeah you may be right about that shot. Remember the wise saying "no project is ever completed, only abandoned." Each month we abandon a project. Otherwise, we could work on one forever and never get it perfect. So we have to let go of some things. Thanks for the feedback, though. It's definitely goes into the file
Elf, whassup! Go for it, man. Yeah, it takes lots of time; no art is less spontaneous than animation.
Milkman, thanks again. Hmm. I think we're going to go with Anime movement and not so much the character design. Thanks for all the feedback. We'll keep posting links as shows get done. As far as hotwired goes, we don't own the shows on Distant Corners; they are a seperate company. But we are working on original content, so we'll keep you in the loop when we get stuff done |
