Hey!

Remember me posting the in-progress pic of the ancient totems covered by some rainforest foliage? That was some month ago, and I'm happy to announce that I finished it!

This is surely the biggest pic I've ever painted, at the original resolution of 1920x1920, so please DO comment. Remember to take a look at the full size JPG as well...

And big thanks for those who posted to the in-progress thread!

Whoa. Very nice indeed!

The no reflections in the water doesn't bother me as much as the no ripples in the water. I seems like the top of the picture is heavy in detail, and the bottom has almost none. Sort of off-balance.
I love the green lighting from below, very cool.
Also - the lighting at the top is pretty hot. Maybe intentional - it sets off the moody green lighting at the bottom really well, but it still seems rather blown out.
Very tight job though, some of the detail is really good, like in the mossy log.

Gecko, this pic is stunning. Well done!

This has it all really, cool lighting, high detail and such a great atmosphere that you can almost hear the cicadas and parakeets flying past.

That picture is tight. The lighting and shadows are a little off... but overall has a very high *niiiccce!* factor.

Gecko-

Nice work you've got going there, you've
obviously put some time into it!

The only comment I would like to add would
be some compostional comments.

Here's a quick sketch of your picture with
a slight alteration in dimensions and
placement of focal areas.

What you'll notice is that the elements of
the composition attempt to focus your eye
towards the opening in the temple.

Here's maybe a crop, and water reflection added.

Hope this makes sort of sense. I'm hoping
that posting a coupole of .jpg's saves me 3
pages worth of typing...

As usual, I'm no expert in composition,
however I hope this is useful.

Hightop, Nex, aNoah, eetu, kig, ceenda, Loud, thank you!

Muzman: Now that's the sweetest thing I've heard in a while :D

Jenn:
I'm waiting for some mail :)

Plant:
I wanted to play with the spotlight effect some really bright sunlight gives when it hits through the foliage, the same thing was with the Veggiesaur pic I posted earlier... probably gonna do more of it.
About the water, sorry but I'm quite satisfied with it as it is, being a deep still water pond/lake. The illumination has some issues though.

Liquid:
You are absolutely right about the composition :). Your examples have the elements placed a lot better.
Composition was not something I had in mind when I started the pic, it was supposed to be only a view to rainforest, with all kinds of vegetation.
Thanks very much for the examples anyway, they made me wanna do a new pic with a better thought-out composition :).

After talking with a friend of mine and takin a walk to the lake nearby, I've come to the conclusion the reflections on the water should be quite subtle, and fade out while coming closer to viewer.
However, the water should be brighter or the ground darker down there because there's no way water that dark would cast so much light on the rocks and objects.
Correct me if I'm mistaken :).

Chalker:
"Nature can be one hell of an inspiration."

Ps.
This pic might get something else on it after all, or maybe I'm doing another painting of the same setup with corrected composition.
