Also, the menu text should also respond to a mouseover. It's a bit difficult guiding the mouse over the circles while looking at a different part of the screen to see what section it lights up.

Without the spear, the most dangerous part of the centaur are the hooves. So the shield would be alot lower than that. With the spear, the guy has a reason to hold the shield up. images/smiles/icon ...

I agree with topeira concering the brightness of the pic. However, that's not entirely a bad thing.
