Kids like making marks in the snow, so maybe that should be in it for that reason. It'll make the picture a bit more busy/playfull as well.

Try buying second-hand clothes, they cost a lot less.
Go for dark colours or black. Buy some t-shirt, longsleves and sweaters with zippers and possibly a hood.
Combine them.
